Module 2 · Running a 60-Min Session · Gradual Release

Module 2 of 8 · Session flow

Make the next step obvious

Your goal: lead a predictable session with time for practice, cleanup, and supervised dismissal.

A simple 60-minute plan

  • 0–5 minutes: welcome, attendance, attention signal, safety expectations, and a short hook.
  • 5–12 minutes · I do: model the task and safe use of materials.
  • 12–20 minutes · We do: practice the first step together and check understanding.
  • 20–45 minutes · You do: students build, test, and improve; you circulate and coach.
  • 45–50 minutes: share a result and explain what was learned.
  • 50–60 minutes: cleanup, count materials, check attendance, and follow the site’s dismissal procedure.

Adapt this example to the assigned lesson and age group. Keep safety, learning goals, and dismissal time intact.

Transitions without confusion

  1. Give a one-minute warning.
  2. Use the attention signal you already taught and practiced.
  3. Give one concrete direction: “Place tools in the tray, then stand behind your chair.”
  4. Watch students carry it out before giving the next direction.

Keep early finishers engaged with an approved extension, explaining their design, or improving a test. Provide appropriate breaks and accommodations; engagement does not mean continuous demands without a break.

Pause and practice

There are ten minutes left, and several students are still building. How do you end on time?

Check your response

Give a clear stopping point, save unfinished work safely, lead cleanup in small steps, and complete supervised dismissal. Do not rush students out or skip checking who is leaving with whom.

Before marking this lesson complete: explain the response in your own words. If anything is unclear, ask onboarding@kodely.io before continuing. The practice reveal itself is not a scored answer or a recorded signature.
