Kodely Leader Essentials
One clear path to your first class. Book your Live practice call now, then complete Leader Essentials, the Online quiz, and your lesson preparation before attending.
Your onboarding steps
Training should take approximately 1.5–2 hours in total. Leader Essentials and the Online quiz together take about 1 hour, included in this total.
Follow these steps in order. Tap a step to see what to do.
1Set up Learn · about 2 minutes.
2Book your Live practice call · about 3 minutes.
3Set up your work tools · about 5 minutes.
Leader App = your schedule. Install the app (iPhone / Android) and sign in with the Gmail account you provided during onboarding. Confirm your next class date, time, school, and program.
Slack = your program team. Join Slack and find your assigned workshop group channel when assigned. Post routine program questions there. Please do not DM individual team members. New to Slack? Open the visual walkthrough → Missing a schedule, invite, or channel? Email onboarding@kodely.io.
Rippling = time tracking and HR setup. Open your personal Rippling invitation when it arrives, complete the assigned setup tasks, and confirm you can access time tracking before your first shift. Use your invitation to access the correct account. If the invitation is missing or access fails, email hr@kodely.io.
Ready when: you can find your class, know where to ask questions, and can access Rippling time tracking. Your workshop channel or Rippling invite may arrive separately; ask for help if either is still missing before your first shift.
4Complete Leader Essentials and the Online quiz · 60 minutes.
5Prepare your lesson demo · about 20 minutes.
6Attend your Live practice call · 30 minutes.
Then wait for team approval to teach. Passing the quiz or receiving a certificate does not mean you are cleared to teach.

New to Slack or teaching with Kodely? Open each step below. You will see where to go, what to say, and what happens next.
Practice examples only. The screens below are illustrated examples, not your live Slack workspace. Sample school/channel names and messages are fictional. Nothing here sends a Slack message.
1 · Know your four tools
Read your training and lesson plans. Take the quiz. Return here for help.
Find your class date, time, school, program, and assignment details.
Read workshop updates and communicate with your assigned group.
Clock in/out, review time entries, and submit your timecard. The Leader App does not replace this.
Remember: Schedule in the Leader App. Team messages in Slack. Work hours in Rippling. Learning in Learn.
2 · Slack basics · workspace, channel, message, and thread
Check you have opened the Kodely workspace. You may belong to other workspaces through school or another job.
A channel usually has a # before its name. Your workshop channel is where the people supporting that assignment can see your updates.
Reply in the thread when responding to a particular question. That keeps the answer attached to the original message.
For routine Kodely program questions, use your assigned group channel or the shared support inbox. Please do not DM individual staff members.
You do not need to read every channel. Start with your assigned workshop channel and any announcement channels the team tells you to follow. Each school/program may have a different channel.

② # sample-school-stemWelcome! This channel is for our Sample School STEM workshop. Check the current assignment details and post class-day updates here.
These are illustrations, not real channel names or live messages.
- Open Slack and confirm you are in the Kodely workspace.
- Use Search to look for the exact workshop channel name provided by the team. Open it and confirm the school/program matches your assignment.
- Read recent updates and the channel information before asking a question. Look for any pinned or linked logistics the team has provided.
- Post your update in the message box for that channel.
On a phone: use Slack’s Search and channel list to open the same conversation; labels may differ by app version. Open the channel title to review its information.
Cannot find it? A private channel requires an invitation. Ask onboarding@kodely.io to confirm your exact channel and add you. Include your name, school, and class date. Do not guess a channel or create a new one.
4 · Check in before class · messages you can adapt
Before leaving: check the Leader App for the correct date, time, and school. Open your lesson in Learn, then post in your assigned workshop channel.
WORKSHOP GROUP
# sample-school-stemFictional example
On my way to [school] for [program] at [class time]. My arrival ETA is [time].
Arrived at [school] and checked in with site staff. I am setting up in [room].
Attach the required classroom arrival photo in Slack. Follow photo-permission rules and avoid including students in a room check-in photo.
At the site: arrive 15 minutes early or at your earlier assigned reporting time, check in with school staff, confirm the room/materials/dismissal plan, and clock in on Rippling when you arrive and begin work. A Slack check-in or Leader App check-in does not record your payroll hours.
Running late? Post your school, class time, ETA, and coverage concern in your assigned group promptly and follow the coordinator’s urgent coverage procedure. A routine message does not guarantee someone has seen it.
5 · Ask for help and reply in a thread
QUESTION IN GROUP
# sample-school-stemFor [school] on [date], I can see my assigned program in the Leader App but cannot find the matching lesson in Learn. I checked [course name]. Could you confirm which lesson I should prepare?
Sample coordinator: Please open [assigned course] and review [lesson].
You: Thank you—I found it and will prepare that lesson.
To reply: choose Reply in thread on the original message, write your reply, and send it. On mobile, open the message’s actions to find the thread option.
Start a new channel message for a new topic. Include the school, date, what you tried, and the help you need. Share payment questions privately with payments@kodely.io; Rippling access questions go to hr@kodely.io.
If someone says “tag”: typing @ lets you mention a person or group. Use broad channel mentions only when the team’s procedure calls for them, not on every routine check-in.
6 · Picture a 60-minute Kodely class
This is an example rhythm. Follow your actual lesson plan, age group, and site instructions.
- 0–3 minutes · Welcome and hookGreet students, use your attention signal, share the challenge, and explain the safety expectations.
- 3–10 minutes · I doGive a short demonstration. Make the first step visible and explain how to use materials safely.
- 10–20 minutes · We doTry a step together. Ask a student to explain or show what to do before releasing the class.
- 20–50 minutes · You doStudents build, test, or create. Circulate, ask questions, support students who are stuck, and offer the prepared extension.
- 50–60 minutes · Reflect, clean up, and closeAsk students what they learned, use your cleanup routine, count/check materials, and follow the site’s dismissal procedure.
What good leadership feels like: clear directions, calm redirection, students actively participating, and a supervised, orderly finish.
Practice · the projector does not work. What should I do?
Use your prepared offline demonstration and accessible verbal/visual instructions, confirm students understand, and ask for site help without interrupting supervision. Let your workshop group know about the equipment problem through the normal reporting process.
7 · Wrap up and know what happens after training
Finished [program] at [school]. Students completed [activity]. Room is cleaned and materials are stored in [location]. For the next session we need [item/question].
Attach the required room-after-cleanup photo in Slack. Submit the session feedback/check-out provided for your assignment.
Then clock out in Rippling when your work is finished and you leave. Review the recorded time for accuracy. If a punch is missing, use the Rippling help section below and contact HR/Payments as appropriate.
Shows your Online quiz result and the learning certificate when you pass.
Your trainer evaluates your demo and readiness. Ask for the result and any next steps after the call.
Wait for the team’s clearance before teaching. The online result, live assessment, and approval to go on-site are separate steps.
Practice here is for learning. It does not send messages, verify external accounts, or create an assessment result. Use the course’s saved setup checkpoint to confirm your tools are ready.
What you will practice
- Professional communication, preparation, and responding constructively to feedback.
- Clear demonstrations, checking understanding, and adapting a lesson.
- Calm behavior support, safe materials, supervision, and dismissal.
- Responding to incidents promptly and reporting facts accurately.
Read each scenario, decide what you would do, then reveal the explanation. Your trainer will also observe these skills during your Live practice call.

Rippling · clock in, clock out, and fix missing time
Rippling is the time record used for payroll. The Leader App shows your schedule; checking in there does not replace your Rippling time entry.
- Before your first shift: accept your Rippling invitation, finish the setup tasks assigned to you, and locate time tracking.
- On class days: clock in when you arrive at the site and begin work. Include required setup and cleanup in your time record.
- After class: clock out when your work is finished and you leave.
- Review your timecard: check dates, start/end times, and any missing entries. Follow the timecard submission instructions shown in Rippling and the guide below.
Forgot a punch or cannot clock in? Write down the date and actual start/end times, correct the entry using the guide where available, and contact hr@kodely.io promptly if you need help. Do not share your password. Record time actually worked, including onboarding/training time, through the process HR provides.

When will I be paid? Where is the pay schedule?
Pay is every two weeks. Pay periods run Saturday through Friday over two weeks. Direct deposit is issued the Friday after that pay period closes.
Example: work recorded for October 24–November 6, 2026 is scheduled for payment on November 13, 2026. A pay-period end date is not the deposit date.
Your payroll welcome email contains the pay schedule. You can return to this section for the timing rule above. For your specific next pay date, a missing payment, or a pay statement question, email payments@kodely.io.
Before asking about missing pay, review your Rippling entries for the dates in question. In your email include your full name, work dates, school, and the pay period you are asking about. Send payment details to Payments rather than a Slack group; never send passwords or bank account numbers in a group channel.
Every class day · before, during, and after
- The night before: check the Leader App for your assignment, review the matching lesson in Learn, and open the lesson before leaving in case the school network blocks access.
- Before leaving: post “On my way to [school name]” in your assigned Slack workshop channel.
- Arrive 15 minutes early or at your earlier assigned reporting time. Check in with site staff, confirm room and dismissal arrangements, post your classroom arrival photo in the workshop channel, and clock in on Rippling.
- During class: supervise students, follow site safety procedures, keep your phone on silent, and use it only for approved work tasks. Follow school/Kodely permission rules for any photos or videos.
- Before leaving: finish dismissal and cleanup, post an after-class room photo in the workshop channel, and clock out on Rippling.
- After the session: complete the feedback/check-out process provided for your assignment. Include the session recap, behavior concerns, and materials needed. Ask in your workshop channel if you cannot find it.
Urgent safety concern? Follow the site’s immediate escalation procedure and get on-site help. Routine email or Slack messages alone are not an emergency response.
Need to miss a class or running late?
Planned absence: submit the absence request as soon as you know, ideally at least two weeks ahead. Update your calendar response where applicable and notify your assigned Slack workshop channel. Coordinate coverage with Talent; a form submission alone does not confirm coverage.
Same-day illness, emergency, or delay: notify your coordinator through the assigned group channel immediately, give your expected arrival time when known, and follow the urgent coverage procedure. Do not wait for the next routine email check.
Scheduling/coverage help: talent@kodely.io. Please do not DM individual staff members for routine requests.
Materials, reimbursements, and equipment returns
Kodely supplies the materials. Do not buy materials or bring candy/outside items without team approval. Report missing materials in your assigned workshop channel before class.
Reimbursements: obtain approval before incurring an expense, then use the reimbursement form with the requested documentation. Check with Talent about any site-required Live Scan reimbursement before paying or submitting.
Returning equipment: confirm the item ID and return arrangements with your coordinator, then complete the equipment check-in form. Ask Operations before disposing of, donating, or returning leftover materials.
Equipment/returns help: operations@kodely.io.
What should I wear? What if I am substituting?
Standard classes: wear neat, professional clothing in neutral colors with closed-toe shoes. Suitable examples include polos, button-downs, modest sweaters, slacks, and chinos. Avoid ripped clothing, large graphics, flip-flops, and casual lounge wear.
Sports classes: wear appropriate coaching attire and clean athletic shoes. Follow any additional dress instructions from your assigned site.
Substitute leaders: confirm your clearance and training status with Talent before accepting an assignment. Check the Leader App for logistics, review the assigned lesson, and make sure you are in the workshop Slack channel before your session.

Was this formerly called KLC? Yes. KLC stood for Kodely Leader Certification. The online course is now called Leader Essentials. After its eight modules, take the Online quiz, then attend your Live practice call.
What is the certificate? Score 100% on the Online quiz to unlock your Online quiz certificate, valid for one year from its issue date. Live assessment and team clearance are separate requirements. The certificate documents learning; it is not a professional safety license.
Where do I ask questions? Account/onboarding help: onboarding@kodely.io. Routine program questions: your assigned Slack group channel; please do not DM individual team members. Follow the site’s immediate escalation procedure for urgent safety issues.
