Module 4 · Classroom Management Playbook

Module 4 of 8 · Behavior support

Lead calmly and include every child

Your goal: prevent disruption, respond respectfully, and keep the rest of the group engaged.

Teach the routines first

Practice your attention signal, taking turns, handling materials, asking for help, and cleanup. Give short directions and model the behavior you expect.

Use a calm response ladder

  1. Notice: look for confusion, frustration, sensory needs, or a need for a break.
  2. Redirect: use a quiet cue or move closer while respecting personal space and maintaining supervision.
  3. Offer a choice: “You can try the first step with me or begin with the drawing.”
  4. Support: give a useful role, a smaller step, or a supervised reset consistent with site guidance.
  5. Get help: if safety is at risk or the behavior exceeds what you can manage, contact designated site staff immediately.

What to say

Interrupting: “I want to hear your idea. Hold it while I show this step, then it’s your turn.”

Frustrated: “This part is tricky. Let’s try one step together.”

Arguing over materials: “Tools down. We’ll take turns: one builder and one tester, then switch.”

Do not shame, threaten, punish the whole group, isolate a child without supervision, or use physical punishment. Do not attempt restraint outside your training and authorized procedures. Follow the site’s behavior and support plans.

Pause and practice

A student keeps interrupting your demonstration. What do you try before stopping the whole lesson?

Check your response

Use a calm cue and a short, respectful direction. Offer a clear time to contribute and check whether the student needs help understanding the task. If the pattern continues, seek site support while keeping the class supervised.

Before marking this lesson complete: explain the response in your own words. If anything is unclear, ask onboarding@kodely.io before continuing. The practice reveal itself is not a scored answer or a recorded signature.
